Unseen Comprehension
An unseen comprehension for practice
Newton had a little pet dog, named Diamond. One day when he was fifty year old, he went out of his room, leaving his little dog asleep before the fire. For twenty years he had been hard at work, studying a most difficult and important subject. On the table lay a heap of papers on which he had written down all that he had found out during those twenty years. When his master was gone, up rose little Diamond, jumped upon the table and knocked over the list lighted candle. The paper at once caught fire. Just when the papers had been burnt out, Newton opened the door of the room. He saw that the fruits of his twenty years' labour had been turned into a heap of ashes. There stood Diamond, the cause of the mischief. Almost any other man would have killed the dog then and there. But Newton patted him on the head with kindness, although his heart was full of grief.
