Difference between AGO, BACK, And BEFORE, Earlier
đAgo and back (informal) are used for past times from the present moment:
1. She graduated from Dhaka University ten years ago.
(ten years in the past from today)
2. We sent the package three days ago.
(three days in the past from today)
3 I moved here about six years back.
(informal – six years in the past from today)
đBefore and earlier are used for past times from another time in the past.
Here are some examples:
1. Yesterday I missed my train. I got to the train station at 8:10, but the train had left ten minutes before. (or ten minutes earlier)
(= at 8:00, ten minutes before 8:10 yesterday)
2. He was very happy when he got this job last July, because he had lost his previous job six months before. (or six months earlier).
(= six months before last June)
đThe definition of ago is simply, 'before the present,' whereas the definition of before is, ' the period of time that precede a particular event, date or time. ' One is a difference of time, the other is a difference of place in time.
