  • She is reading a book in the room.
  • They are reading the books in the room.

āĻĒ্āϰāĻĨāĻŽ sentence āĻāϰ subject āϟি third person, singular number  āϤাāχ verb “is” agree āĻ•āϰেāĻ›ে। āĻ•িāύ্āϤু āĻĻ্āĻŦিāϤী⧟ sentence āĻāϰ subject āϟি third person, plural number āϤাāχ verb “are” agree āĻ•āϰেāĻ›ে। āĻ…āϰ্āĻĨাā§Ž sentence āĻĻুāϟিāϤে subject āĻāϰ number āĻāĻŦং person āĻāϰ āωāĻĒāϰ āĻ­িāϤ্āϤি āĻ•āϰে verb āĻŦāϏেāĻ›ে।

Rule-1: āĻāĻ•āϟি sentence āĻ verb āϏāĻŦāϏāĻŽā§Ÿ subject āĻ•ে āĻ…āύুāϏāϰāĻŖ āĻ•āϰে। āĻ…āϰ্āĻĨাā§Ž singular subject āĻāϰ āϜāύ্āϝ singular verb āĻšā§Ÿ āĻāĻŦং plural subject āĻāϰ āϜāύ্āϝ plural verb āĻšā§Ÿ।

  • He is reading a book in the room.
  • They are reading the books in the room.

 

Rule-2: News, wages, physics, mathematics, polices, gallows āχāϤ্āϝাāĻĻি āĻļāĻŦ্āĻĻāĻ—ুāϞো āĻĻেāĻ–āϤে plural āĻŽāύে āĻšāϞেāĻ“ āĻāĻ—ুāϞো āϝāĻ–āύ  subject āĻšিāϏাāĻŦে āĻŦāϏে āϤāĻ–āύ subject singular āĻšিāϏেāĻŦে āĻŦ্āϝāĻŦāĻšিāϤ āĻšā§Ÿ।

  • The news is bad.
  • Mathematics is an interesting subject.

 

Rule-3: Uncountable noun and Abstract noun such as: Air, hair, smoke, oxygen, water, milk, ink, soup, dust, rice, grass, salt, honesty, courage, peace, sympathy, football, cotton, furniture, cooking, parking, training, love, advice, information, knowledge āχāϤ্āϝাāĻĻি āĻļāĻŦ্āĻĻāĻ—ুāϞো  āϝāĻ–āύ subject āĻšিāϏাāĻŦে āĻŦāϏে āϤāĻ–āύ subject singular āĻšিāϏেāĻŦে āĻŦ্āϝāĻŦāĻšিāϤ āĻšā§Ÿ।

  • Her hair is gray.
  • Honesty is the best policy.

 

Rule-4āĻ•িāĻ›ু  words āφāĻ›ে āϝাāĻĻেāϰ āĻĒāϰ āϏাāϧাāϰāĻŖāϤ singular pronoun āĻšā§Ÿ āĻāĻŦং verb āĻ“ singular āĻšā§Ÿ।

Rule-5: āϟাāĻ•াāϰ āĻĒāϰিāĻŽাāĻŖ, āϏāĻŽā§Ÿ, āĻĻুāϰুāϤ āĻŦাāϚāĻ• āĻļāĻŦ্āĻĻāĻ—ুāϞো āϝāĻĻি subject āĻšিāϏেāĻŦে āĻŦāϏে āϤāĻŦে verb singular āĻšā§Ÿ।

  • Three hours is a long time.
  • Five hundred dollars is a lot of money.

 

Rule-6: āĻĻেāĻļেāϰ āύাāĻŽ, āĻŦāĻ‡ā§Ÿেāϰ āύাāĻŽ āĻĻেāĻ–āϤে plural āĻšāϞেāĻ“ verb singular āĻšā§Ÿ।

  • Gulliver’sTravels is an interesting book.
  • The United States of America is a rich country.

 

Rule-7: One of āĻāϰ āĻĒāϰে noun āϟি plural āĻšāϞেāĻ“ verb singular āĻšā§Ÿ।

  • One of the boys is absent.

 

Rule-8: āĻŦাāĻ•্āϝে phrase, gerund, infinitive āχāϤ্āϝাāĻĻি subject āĻšিāϏেāĻŦে āĻŦ্āϝāĻŦāĻšিāϤ āĻšāϞে verb singular āĻšā§Ÿ।

  • Walking is a good exercise.
  • To play is a good exercise.

 

Rule-9Cattle, people, public, peasantry, police, dozen, poultry, gentry, mankind  āχāϤ্āϝাāĻĻি āĻļāĻŦ্āĻĻāĻ—ুāϞো āĻĻেāĻ–āϤে singular āĻŽāύে āĻšāϞেāĻ“ āϝāĻ–āύ subject āĻšিāϏেāĻŦে āĻŦāϏে āϤāĻ–āύ verb plural āĻšā§Ÿ।

  • Cattle are grazing in the field.

 

Rule-10: āĻĻুāχ āĻŦা āĻĻুāĻ‡ā§Ÿেāϰ āĻ…āϧিāĻ• subject “and” āĻĻ্āĻŦাāϰা āϝুāĻ•্āϤ āĻšāϞে plural verb āĻšā§Ÿ।

  • Kafi and Rahi are playing football.

 

Rule-11: And āĻĻ্āĻŦাāϰা āϝুāĻ•্āϤ subject āĻ—ুāϞোāϰ āĻĒুāϰ্āĻŦে each, every, no āχāϤ্āϝাāĻĻি āĻĨাāĻ•āϞে verb āϏāϰ্āĻŦāĻĻা singular āĻšā§Ÿ।

  • Each boy and each girl was/is active.

 

Rule-12All, both, few, many, several, some āχāϤ্āϝāĻĻি āĻļāĻŦ্āĻĻāĻ—ুāϞোāϰ āĻĒāϰ plural noun āĻŦা pronoun āĻšā§Ÿ, āϤাāχ plural verb āĻšā§Ÿ।

  • Many people are not hard workers.

 

Rule-13: āĻŦাāĻ•্āϝে “A number of”  āĻāĻŦং “The number of” āĻāϰ āĻŦ্āϝāĻŦāĻšাāϰ। āύিāϚেāϰ āϏ্āϟ্āϰাāĻ•āϚাāϰ āĻ…āύুāϝা⧟ী āĻŦ্āϝāĻŦāĻšিāϤ āĻšā§Ÿ।

the number of + plural noun + singular verb…

  • A number of students were killed in the accident.
  • The number of students in this class is forty.

 

Rule-14: As well as, with including, together with, except, in addition to, no less than, accompanied by, along with āχāϤ্āϝাāĻĻি āĻļāĻŦ্āĻĻāĻ—ুāϞো āĻŦাāĻ•্āϝে āĻĻুāϟি subject āĻ•ে āϝুāĻ•্āϤ āĻ•āϰāϞে āĻĒ্āϰāĻĨāĻŽ subject āĻ…āύুāϏাāϰে verb āĻšā§Ÿ।

  • Rahi as well as his friends has gone to see his ailing mother.
  • I along with some of my friends was present.

Rule-15: Either……or, Neither…..nor āĻĻ্āĻŦাāϰা āĻŦাāĻ•্āϝে āĻĻুāϟি subject āĻ•ে āϝুāĻ•্āϤ āĻ•āϰāϞে or āĻāĻŦং nor āĻāϰ āĻĒāϰেāϰ subject āĻ…āύুāϏাāϰে verb āĻšā§Ÿ। āĻ…āϰ্āĻĨাā§Ž āύিāϚেāϰ āϏ্āϟ্āϰাāĻ•āϚাāϰ āĻ…āύুāϝা⧟ী āĻšā§Ÿ-

either/neither + noun + or/nor + plural noun + plural verb…

either/neither + noun + or/nor + singular noun + singular verb..

  • Either Rahi or his brothers were  present.
  • Either Rahim or Karim was present.
  • Neither Suchi nor her brothers were present.

Rule-16: Not only….but also āĻĻ্āĻŦাāϰা āĻŦাāĻ•্āϝে āĻĻুāϟি subject āĻ•ে āϝুāĻ•্āϤ āĻ•āϰāϞে but also āĻāϰ āĻĒāϰেāϰ subject āĻ…āύুāϏাāϰে verb āĻšā§Ÿ।

  • Not only Sneha but also her friends were present the meeting.

 

Rule-17 : āĻŦাāĻ•্āϝে none āĻāϰ āĻĒāϰ singular verb āĻāĻŦং plural verb āĻĻুāϟিāχ āĻšāϤে āĻĒাāϰে। āύিāϚেāϰ āϏ্āϟ্āϰাāĻ•āϚাāϰ āĻ…āύুāϝা⧟ী āĻŦ্āϝāĻŦāĻšিāϤ āĻšā§Ÿ।

none + of the + non-count noun + singular verb

none + of the + plural count noun + plural verb

  • None of the counterfeit money has been found.
  • None of the students have finished the exam yet.

 

Rule-18: āĻŦাāĻ•্āϝে no āĻāϰ āĻĒāϰ singular verb āĻāĻŦং plural verb āĻĻুāϟিāχ āĻšāϤে āĻĒাāϰে। āύিāϚেāϰ āϏ্āϟ্āϰাāĻ•āϚাāϰ āĻ…āύুāϝা⧟ী āĻŦ্āϝāĻŦāĻšিāϤ āĻšā§Ÿ।

no + singular noun / non-count noun + singular verb

no + plural noun + plural verb

Rule-19: āĻŦাāĻ•্āϝে there is / there are āĻāϰ āĻŦ্āϝāĻŦāĻšাāϰ āύিāϚেāϰ āϏ্āϟ্āϰাāĻ•āϚাāϰ āĻ…āύুāϝা⧟ী āĻšā§Ÿ।

there is / there was / there has been + singular subject / non-count noun….

  • There was water on the floor.
