Tense নিয়ে টেনশন?! 

No more- আর না। 

Tense means the form of a verb that shows the time of an action.

Tense হলো verb-এর এমন একটি form যা কোনো কাজ কখন ঘটেছে (সময়) তা বোঝায়। Latin word 'Tempus' থেকে Tense শব্দটি এসেছে।  

🧠 Easy Explanation

Present ➜ এখন হয় বা  হচ্ছে Now 

Past ➜ আগে হয়েছিলো (Before) What happened ago

Future ➜ পরে হবে (Later) What will happen later.

📊 Classification of Tenses (12 Tenses)

🟢 Present Tense (বর্তমান কাল)

👉 বর্তমান সময়ের কাজ বোঝায়।

🔵 Past Tense (অতীত কাল)

👉 অতীতে ঘটে যাওয়া কাজ বোঝায়।

🟣 Future Tense (ভবিষ্যৎ কাল)

👉 ভবিষ্যতে ঘটবে এমন কাজ বোঝায়।

📘 12 Tenses with Structure + Example + বাংলা চেনার উপায়

🟢 1. Present Indefinite/ Simple Present 

✅ চেনার উপায়:

বাংলায় সাধারণত খাই, যাই, করি, পড়ে, খেলি, থাকে ইত্যাদি থাকে এবং অভ্যাস, চিরন্তন সত্য বা নিয়মিত কাজ বোঝায়। - What usually  happens/ state of being at present / habitual fact/ repeated action/ universal truth 

Structure: Sub + V1 (s/es) + Obj

I eat rice.- আমি ভাত খাই।

He eats rice- সে ভাত খায়।

He is a student- সে এজজন ছাত্র। 

I have many friends- আমার অনেক বন্ধুবান্ধব আছে। 

My father is a service holder-  আমার বাবা এজজন চাকুরীজীবি। 

The sun rises in the east. সূর্য পূর্ব দিকে উঠে।

The sun sets in the west. সূর্য পশ্চিম দিকে অস্ত যায়।

Cue Words:

always, usually, often, sometimes, never, every day, every week, every month, every year, daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, annually, regularly, generally, normally, habitually.

🟢 2. Present Continuous/ Present Progressive 

✅ চেনার উপায়:

বাংলায় তেছি, তেছো, তেছে,  করছি, যাচ্ছে, লিখছি ইত্যাদি থাকে। 

Structure: Sub + am/is/are + V1 + ing + Obj

I am eating rice. - আমি ভাত খাচ্ছি।

He is being kind.- সে দয়ালু হচ্ছে। 

Cue words: 

now = এখন

right now = এই মুহূর্তে

at the moment = এই মুহূর্তে

currently = বর্তমানে

at present = বর্তমানে

today = আজ (আজকের জন্য চলমান কাজ)

these days = আজকাল

this week = এই সপ্তাহে

this month = এই মাসে

this year = এই বছরে

still = এখনও

look! = দেখো!

See!  = দেখো

listen! = শোনো!

right away = এখনই

🟢 3. Present Perfect

✅ চেনার উপায়:

বাংলায় -য়াছি, য়াছে, -য়েছে,  যেমন: করেছি, লিখেছি, গিয়েছি ইত্যাদি থাকে।

Structure: Sub + have/has + V3 + Obj

I have eaten rice. আমি ভাত খেয়েছি।

Cue words: Already,  recently,  just now, just, yet,  lately, never, ever

🟢 4. Present Perfect Continuous

✅ চেনার উপায়:

বর্তমানে নির্দিষ্ট সময় থেকে/  “ধরে … করছি/আছি” বোঝায়। যেমন: দুই বছর ধরে থাকছি, সকাল থেকে কাজ করছি।

Structure: Sub + have/has been + V-ing + for/since + time

I have been reading for two hours.

আমি দুই ঘণ্টা ধরে পড়ছি।

সকাল থেকে বৃষ্টি হচ্ছে - It has been raining since morning.

সে সাতদিন যাবত অসুস্থ - He has bern sick for 7 days. 

Cue words: since, for, how long...

🔵 5. Past Indefinite

✅ চেনার উপায়:

বাংলায় -লাম, লে -ল, -লেন থাকে। যেমন: করলাম, গেলাম, লিখল, করেছিলাম,  খেয়েছিলাম ইত্যাদি থাকে।

Structure: Sub + V2 + Obj

I ate rice.

আমি ভাত খেলাম।

Note: 1. ক্রিয়ার সহিত তাম তে,  ত, তেন অর্থাত অতীত কালের অভ্যাস বুঝালে:  Sub + used to + V1+ extension 

আমি চা খেতাম- I used to take tea. 

Note 2: কোনো কিছু করতে লাগলো বুঝালে:

 Sub  + began to + V1 + extension 

অথবা Sub + Started + V1 + ing

সে খেলতে লাগলো- He began to play. / He started playing. 

Cue words: yesterday, last night, last week, last month, last year, just now, earlier, previously

once, once upon a time, then, that day, the other day, before, at that time, in the past

in 2020, in 2015, in those days

🔵 6. Past Continuous

✅ চেনার উপায়:

বাংলায় -তেছিলাম, তেছিলো, করছিলাম..  থাকে। যেমন: পড়ছিলাম, যাচ্ছিল, লিখছিলেন।

Structure: Sub + was/were + V-ing + Obj

I was eating rice.

আমি ভাত খাচ্ছিলাম।

Cue words: while, when, at that time, at that moment, all day, all night, the whole day, the whole night, this time yesterday, around 5 p.m. yesterday, at 8 o'clock last night, as, meanwhile, in the meantime

🔵 7. Past Perfect

✅ চেনার উপায়:

অতীতে সম্পন্ন হওয়া দুটো কাজের মধ্যে যে কাজটি অপেক্ষাকৃত আগে হয়েছিল সেটি Past perfect tense আর যেটি পরে হয়েছিল সেটি Past indefinite tense হবে। 

Structure: Sub + had + V3 + Obj

I had eaten before he came- সে আসার আগে আমি খেয়েছিলাম। 

He had been sick for 5 days. সে ৫ দিন যাবত অসুস্থ ছিলো। 

সে আসার পরে আমি খেয়েছিলাম।  - I ate after he had come. 

Note: Before শব্দটির আগের Clause/ Sentence টি Past Perfect হয়। অন্য Sentence টি Past Indefinite হয়। 

• After শব্দটির পরের Sentence টি Past perfect হয়। অন্য Sentence টি Past Indefinite হয়। 

Cue words: by then, by the time, before/ after related clause, within 

🔵 8. Past Perfect Continuous

✅ চেনার উপায়:

অতীতে নির্দিষ্ট ধরে/ থেকে কোনো কাজ চলছিলো এমন বুঝায়।   যেমন: এক ঘণ্টা ধরে কাজ করছিলাম। সকাল থেকে বৃষ্টি হচ্ছিলো।

Structure: Sub + had been + V-ing + for/since + time

I had been reading for two hours- আমি দুই ঘণ্টা ধরে পড়ছিলাম।

সকাল থেকে বৃষ্টি হচ্ছিলো।- It had beeb raining since morning.

🟣 9. Future Indefinite

✅ চেনার উপায়:

ভবিষ্যতে কোনো কাজ হবে - ক্রিয়ার সাথে ব, -বে, -বেন থাকে। যেমন: করব, যাব, লিখবে।

Structure: Sub + will + V1 + Obj

I will eat rice.-  আমি ভাত খাব।

Cue words: tomorrow, next week/month/year, soon, later, tonight, this evening, in the future, one day, someday, in a few minutes/days, after, before, from now on, probably, perhaps

🟣 10. Future Continuous

✅ চেনার উপায়:

ভবিষ্যতে কোনো কাজ চলতে থাকবে ষেমন  “করতে থাকব”, “পড়তে থাকব”, “চলতে থাকবে” এ ধরনের অর্থ প্রকাশ করে।

Structure: Sub + will be + V-ing + Obj

I will be reading.

আমি পড়তে থাকব।

Cue words: at this time tomorrow, at this time next week, this time tomorrow, at 5 p.m. tomorrow, all day tomorrow, all night tomorrow, from...to..., while, when, meanwhile, in the meantime.

🟣 11. Future Perfect

✅ চেনার উপায়:

বাংলায় “করে ফেলব”, “শেষ করে ফেলবে”, “এর মধ্যে হয়ে যাবে” ধরনের অর্থ থাকে। ভবিষ্যতে দুটো কাজ সম্পন্ন হবে এবং একটি কাজের পূর্বে বা পরে অপর একটি কাজ শেষ হবে এমন বুঝালে Future Perfect Tense হয়। 

Note: যে কাজটি অপেক্ষাকৃত আগে হবে সেটি Future Perfect, আর যেটি অপেক্ষাকৃত পরে হবে সেটি Present Indefinite

Structure: Sub + will have + V3 + Obj

I will have finished the work by 10 a.m.

সকাল ১০টার মধ্যে আমি কাজটি শেষ করে ফেলব।

I will have completed the project by Friday. ➜ শুক্রবারের মধ্যে আমি প্রকল্পটি শেষ করে ফেলব।

They will have reached home by 8 p.m. ➜ রাত ৮টার মধ্যে তারা বাসায় পৌঁছে যাবে।

বাবা অফিসে যাওয়ার আগে আমি ভাত খেয়ে ফেলব।

I will have eaten rice before my father goes to the office.

➜ ট্রেন ছাড়ার আগে আমরা স্টেশনে পৌঁছে যাব। We will have reached the station before the train leaves.

Cue words: by tomorrow, by next week/month/year, by then, by the time, before, within, by 2030, by the end of..., before + time/event.

🟣 12. Future Perfect Continuous

✅ চেনার উপায়:

ভবিষ্যতে নির্দিষ্ট সময় যাবত বা ধরিয়া কোনো কাজ চলতে থাকবে এমন বুঝায়।

Structure: Sub + will have been + V1-ing + for/since + time

আমি আগামী  দুই ঘণ্টা ধরে কাজটি করতে থাকবো - 

I will have been working for the next two hours.
