Story: Why Does the Frog Croak?   Lesson 1

A. Listen and read (āĻļোāύ āĻāĻŦং āĻĒ⧜).

What sound does a frog make (āĻāĻ•āϟি āĻŦ্āϝাāĻ™ āĻ•ি āϧāϰāύেāϰ āĻļāĻŦ্āĻĻ āĻ•āϰে)? Croak, croak (āϘ্āϝাāĻ™āϰ āϘ্āϝাāĻ™āϰ)! It isn't a beautiful sound (āĻāϟি āĻāĻ•āϟি āϏুāύ্āĻĻāϰ āĻļāĻŦ্āĻĻ āύāϝ়). But a long time ago, frogs had beautiful voices (āĻ•িāύ্āϤুāĻ…āύেāĻ• āĻĻিāύ āφāĻ—েāĻŦ্āϝাāĻ™েāϰ āϏুāύ্āĻĻāϰ āĻ•āĻŖ্āĻ āϏ্āĻŦāϰ āĻ›িāϞ). They could sing more beautiful than the birds (āϤাāϰা āĻĒাāĻ–িāϰ āϚেāϝ়ে āĻŦেāĻļি āϏুāύ্āĻĻāϰ āĻ—াāύ āĻ—াāχāϤে āĻĒাāϰāϤ). This all changed because of one frog named Bluster (āĻŦ্āϞাāϏ্āϟাāϰ āύাāĻŽে āĻāĻ•āϟি āĻŦ্āϝাāĻ™েāϰ āĻ•াāϰāĻŖে āĻāχ āϏāĻŽāϏ্āϤ āĻĒāϰিāĻŦāϰ্āϤāύ āĻšāϝ়েāĻ›ে).

Bluster had the most beautiful voice of all the animals (āĻŦ্āϞাāϏ্āϟাāϰেāϰ āϏāĻŽāϏ্āϤ āĻĒ্āϰাāĻŖীāϰ āĻŽāϧ্āϝে āϏāĻŦāϚেāϝ়ে āϏুāύ্āĻĻāϰ āĻ•āĻŖ্āĻ āϏ্āĻŦāϰ āĻ›িāϞ). When he sang, all the other animals came to hear him (āϝāĻ–āύ āϏে āĻ—াāύ āĻ—াāχāϤāϤāĻ–āύ āĻ…āύ্āϝ āϏāĻŽāϏ্āϤ āĻĒ্āϰাāĻŖীāϰা āϤাāϰ āĻ—াāύ āĻļুāύāϤে āφāϏāϤ). They enjoyed listening to him (āϤাāϰা āϤাāϰ āĻ—াāύ āĻļুāύে āωāĻĒāĻোāĻ— āĻ•āϰāϤ). "Please teach us how to sing!" the animals asked ("āĻĻāϝ়া āĻ•āϰে āφāĻŽাāĻĻেāϰ āĻļেāĻ–াāĻ“ āĻ•িāĻাāĻŦে āĻ—াāύ āĻ—াāχāϤে āĻšāϝ়!" āĻĒāĻļুāϰা āϜিāϜ্āĻžাāϏা āĻ•āϰāϞ). But Bluster always answered in the same way (āĻ•িāύ্āϤু āĻŦ্āϞাāϏ্āϟাāϰ āϏāĻŦāϏāĻŽāϝ় āĻāĻ•āχ āĻাāĻŦে āωāϤ্āϤāϰ āĻĻেāϝ়). "No, no (āύাāύা). My voice is mine (āφāĻŽাāϰ āĻ•āĻŖ্āĻ āϏ্āĻŦāϰ āφāĻŽাāϰ). I cannot share it," he said (āφāĻŽি āĻāϟা āĻাāĻ—াāĻাāĻ—ি āĻ•āϰāϤে āĻĒাāϰি āύা," āĻŦāϞāϤ).

Story: Why Does the Frog Croak?   Lessons 2-3

One morning, Moxie the rabbit and Pluck the lizard talked to the fox and the rat (āĻāĻ• āϏāĻ•াāϞে āĻ–āϰāĻ—োāϏ āĻŽোāĻ•্āϏি āĻ“ āϟিāĻ•āϟিāĻ•ি āĻĒ্āϞাāĻ• āĻļে⧟াāϞ āĻ“ āχāĻĻুāϰেāϰ āϏাāĻĨে āĻ•āĻĨা āĻŦāϞāϞ). "Bluster has such a big, beautiful voice ("āĻŦ্āϞাāϏ্āϟাāϰেāϰ āĻāϤ āĻŦāĻĄ়āϏুāύ্āĻĻāϰ āĻ•āĻŖ্āĻ āϏ্āĻŦāϰ āϰāϝ়েāĻ›ে). Surely, he can share it with us," said Moxie (āĻ…āĻŦāĻļ্āϝāχāϏে āĻāϟি āφāĻŽাāĻĻেāϰ āϏাāĻĨে āĻাāĻ—āĻাāĻ—ি āĻ•āϰে āύিāϤে āĻĒাāϰে, "Moxie āĻŦāϞāϞ). They agreed (āϤাāϰা āĻāĻ•āĻŽāϤ āĻšāϝ়েāĻ›িāϞ). Bluster should share his voice with them (āĻŦ্āϞাāϏ্āϟাāϰāĻ•ে āϤাāĻĻেāϰ āϏাāĻĨে āϤাāϰ āĻ•āĻŖ্āĻ āϏ্āĻŦāϰ āĻাāĻ— āĻ•āϰে āύেāĻ“āϝ়া āωāϚিāϤ). It was such a big voice (āĻāϟা āĻāϤ āĻŦāĻĄ় āĻāĻ•āϟা āĻ•āĻŖ্āĻ āϏ্āĻŦāϰ). Each animal could have just a small piece of it (āĻĒ্āϰāϤিāϟি āĻĒ্āϰাāĻŖীāϰ āĻāĻ•āϟি āĻ›োāϟ āϟুāĻ•āϰা āĻĨাāĻ•া āωāϚিā§Ž). Bluster could share his voice with each animal (āĻŦ্āϞাāϏ্āϟাāϰ āĻĒ্āϰāϤিāϟি āĻĒ্āϰাāĻŖীāϰ āϏাāĻĨে āϤাāϰ āĻ•āĻŖ্āĻ āϏ্āĻŦāϰ āĻাāĻ— āĻ•āϰে āύিāϤে āĻĒাāϰāϤ).

The animals talked and talked late into the afternoon (āĻĒāĻļুāϰা āĻŦিāĻ•েāϞ āĻĒāϰ্āϝāύ্āϤ āĻ•āĻĨা āĻŦāϞে āϚāϞāϞ). They made a plan to take Bluster's voice (āϤাāϰা āĻŦ্āϞাāϏ্āϟাāϰেāϰ āĻ•āĻŖ্āĻ āϏ্āĻŦāϰ āύেāĻ“āϝ়াāϰ āϜāύ্āϝ āĻāĻ•āϟি āĻĒāϰিāĻ•āϞ্āĻĒāύা āĻ•āϰেāĻ›িāϞ). They decided not to tell the birds (āϤাāϰা āϏিāĻĻ্āϧাāύ্āϤ āύিāϝ়েāĻ›ে āϝে āϤাāϰা āĻĒাāĻ–িāĻĻেāϰ āĻŦāϞāĻŦে āύা). But, they didn't have to tell them (āĻ•িāύ্āϤু āϤাāĻĻেāϰ [āĻĒাāĻ–িāĻĻেāϰāĻŦāϞāϤে āĻšā§Ÿāύি āϤাāĻĻেāϰ)! The birds were sitting in the tree and they heard the animals' plan (āĻĒাāĻ–িāϰা āĻ—াāĻ›ে āĻŦāϏে āĻ›িāϞ āĻāĻŦং āϤাāϰা āĻĒ্āϰাāĻŖীāĻĻেāϰ āĻĒāϰিāĻ•āϞ্āĻĒāύা āĻļুāύেāĻ›িāϞ).

At midnight, Pluck and Moxie quietly went to Bluster's home (āĻŽāϧ্āϝāϰাāϤেāĻĒ্āϞাāĻ• āĻāĻŦং āĻŽāĻ•্āϏি āύিāϰāĻŦে āĻŦ্āϞাāϏ্āϟাāϰেāϰ āĻŦাāĻĄ়িāϤে āĻ—িāϝ়েāĻ›িāϞ). Bluster was sleeping in his bed, and without making a sound, they took his voice (āĻŦ্āϞাāϏ্āϟাāϰ āϤাāϰ āĻŦিāĻ›াāύাāϝ় āϘুāĻŽাāϚ্āĻ›িāϞāĻāĻŦং āĻ•োāύāĻ“ āĻļāĻŦ্āĻĻ āύা āĻ•āϰেāχāϤাāϰা āϤাāϰ āĻ•āĻŖ্āĻ āϏ্āĻŦāϰ āύি⧟ে āύিāϞ)! They put it into a glass jar (āϤাāϰা āĻāϟিāĻ•ে āĻāĻ•āϟি āĻ•াāϚেāϰ āĻĒাāϤ্āϰে āϰাāĻ–āϞ).

Story: Why Does the Frog Croak?   Lessons 4

Pluck and Moxie took the glass jar outside (āĻĒ্āϞাāĻ• āĻāĻŦং āĻŽāĻ•্āϏি āĻ•াāϚেāϰ āĻĒাāϤ্āϰāϟি āĻŦাāχāϰে āύিāϝ়ে āĻ—েāϞ). The other animals were waiting (āĻ…āύ্āϝ āĻĒ্āϰাāĻŖীāϰা āĻ…āĻĒেāĻ•্āώা āĻ•āϰāĻ›িāϞ). "Oh, give me my piece ("āĻ“āĻšāφāĻŽাāϰ āϟুāĻ•āϰাāϟা āφāĻŽাāĻ•ে āĻĻাāĻ“।)!" said the fox (āĻļিāϝ়াāϞ āĻŦāϞāϞ). "I want my piece ("āφāĻŽি āφāĻŽাāϰ āϟুāĻ•āϰা āϚাāχ)!" said the rat (āχঁāĻĻুāϰāϟি āĻŦāϞāϞ). Suddenly, the jar fell to the ground and it broke (āĻšāĻ াā§ŽāĻĒাāϤ্āϰāϟি āĻŽাāϟিāϤে āĻĒāĻĄ়ে āϝাāϝ় āĻāĻŦং āĻāϟি āĻেāĻ™ে āϝাāϝ়). Bluster's voice and the jar were now in a hundred little pieces (āĻŦ্āϞাāϏ্āϟাāϰেāϰ āĻ•āĻŖ্āĻ āϏ্āĻŦāϰ āĻāĻŦং āĻĒাāϤ্āϰāϟি āĻāĻ–āύ āĻāĻ•āĻļোāϟি āĻ›োāϟ āĻ›োāϟ āϟুāĻ•āϰো āĻšā§Ÿে āĻ—েāϞ).

"Oh, no (āĻ“āĻšāύা)!" cried Moxie (āĻŽāĻ•্āϏি āĻ•েঁāĻĻে āωāĻ āϞ). The animals searched, but they couldn't find any of the pieces (āĻĒ্āϰাāĻŖীāϰা āĻ…āύুāϏāύ্āϧাāύ āĻ•āϰেāĻ›িāϞāĻ•িāύ্āϤু āϤাāϰা āĻ•োāύāĻ“ āϟুāĻ•āϰো āĻ–ুঁāϜে āĻĒাāϝ়āύি). It was too dark and the pieces were too small (āϤāĻ–āύ āĻ–ুāĻŦ āĻ…āύ্āϧāĻ•াāϰ āĻ›িāϞ āĻāĻŦং āϟুāĻ•āϰাāĻ—ুāϞি āĻ–ুāĻŦ āĻ›োāϟ āĻ›িāϞ). "What are we going to do ("āφāĻŽāϰা āĻ•ি āĻ•āϰāϤে āϝাāϚ্āĻ›ি)?" asked Pluck (āĻĒ্āϞাāĻ• āϜিāϜ্āĻžাāϏা āĻ•āϰāϞ). "We will come back in the morning," said Moxie ("āφāĻŽāϰা āϏāĻ•াāϞে āĻĢিāϰে āφāϏāĻŦ," āĻŽāĻ•্āϏি āĻŦāϞāϞ). And, all the animals went home without a piece of Bluster's beautiful voice (āĻāĻŦংāϏāĻŽāϏ্āϤ āĻĒ্āϰাāĻŖী āĻŦ্āϞাāϏ্āϟাāϰেāϰ āϏুāύ্āĻĻāϰ āĻ•āĻŖ্āĻ āϏ্āĻŦāϰেāϰ āĻāĻ•āϟি āϟুāĻ•āϰো āĻ›াāĻĄ়াāχ āĻŦাāĻĄ়িāϤে āϚāϞে āĻ—েāϞ). They were all very tired from looking for the voice, so they went to sleep (āϤাāϰা āϏāĻŦাāχ āĻ•āĻŖ্āĻ āϏ্āĻŦāϰেāϰ āϏāύ্āϧাāύে āĻ–ুāĻŦ āĻ•্āϞাāύ্āϤ āĻ›িāϞāϤাāχ āϤাāϰা āϘুāĻŽাāϤে āĻ—িāϝ়েāĻ›িāϞ).

Story: Why Does the Frog Croak?   Lessons 5-6

In the morning, as the sun came up, the birds went out to have their breakfast (āϏāĻ•াāϞেāϏূāϰ্āϝ āωāĻ ে āφāϏাāϰ āϏাāĻĨে āϏাāĻĨে āĻĒাāĻ–িāϰা āϤাāĻĻেāϰ āĻĒ্āϰাāϤঃāϰাāĻļেāϰ āϜāύ্āϝ āĻŦাāχāϰে āĻ—িāϝ়েāĻ›িāϞ). With their good eyes, the birds saw the little pieces of the beautiful voice on the ground (āϤাāĻĻেāϰ āĻাāϞ āϚোāĻ– āĻĻিāϝ়েāĻĒাāĻ–িāĻ—ুāϞি āĻŽাāϟিāϤে āϏুāύ্āĻĻāϰ āĻ•āĻŖ্āĻ āϏ্āĻŦāϰেāϰ āĻ›োāϟ āĻ›োāϟ āϟুāĻ•āϰোāĻ—ুāϞি āĻĻেāĻ–েāĻ›িāϞ). They carefully picked up the pieces (āϤাāϰা āϏাāĻŦāϧাāύে āϟুāĻ•āϰাāĻ—ুāϞি āϤুāϞে āύিāϝ়েāĻ›িāϞ). They didn't leave one piece of the beautiful voice behind (āϤাāϰা āϏুāύ্āĻĻāϰ āĻ•āĻŖ্āĻ āϏ্āĻŦāϰেāϰ āĻāĻ• āϟুāĻ•āϰোāĻ“ āĻĒিāĻ›āύে āĻĢেāϞে āϝাāϝ়āύি).

That afternoon, the animals finally woke up (āϏেāχ āĻŦিāĻ•েāϞেāĻĒ্āϰাāĻŖীāϰা āĻ…āĻŦāĻļেāώে āϜেāĻ—ে āωāĻ āϞ). They ran to get the pieces of Bluster's voice, but all they found there was broken glass (āϤাāϰা āĻŦ্āϞাāϏ্āϟাāϰেāϰ āĻ•āĻŖ্āĻ āϏ্āĻŦāϰেāϰ āϟুāĻ•āϰোāĻ—ুāϞি āĻĒেāϤে āĻĻৌāĻĄ়েāĻ›িāϞāϤāĻŦে āϤাāϰা āϏেāĻ–াāύে āϝা āĻĒেāϝ়েāĻ›িāϞ āϤা āĻ•েāĻŦāϞ āĻাāĻ™া āĻ•াāϚ āĻ›িāϞ). They searched and searched, but there were no pieces of the voice (āϤাāϰা āĻ…āύুāϏāύ্āϧাāύেāϰ āĻĒāϰ āĻ…āύুāϏāύ্āϧাāύ āĻ•āϰেāĻ›িāϞāĻ•িāύ্āϤু āĻ•āĻŖ্āĻ āϏ্āĻŦāϰেāϰ āĻ•োāύāĻ“ āϟুāĻ•āϰো āĻ›িāϞ āύা). Then, suddenly, they heard a beautiful song coming from the trees (āϤাāϰāĻĒāϰāĻšāĻ াā§ŽāϤাāϰা āĻ—াāĻ› āĻĨেāĻ•ে āφāϏāĻ›ে  āĻāĻŽāύ āĻāĻ•āϟি āϏুāύ্āĻĻāϰ āĻ—াāύ āĻļুāύāϤে āĻĒাāϝ়). Bluster's voice was coming from the trees (āĻŦ্āϞাāϏ্āϟাāϰেāϰ āĻ•āĻŖ্āĻ āϏ্āĻŦāϰ āĻ—াāĻ› āĻĨেāĻ•ে āφāϏāĻ›িāϞ). They looked up and saw the birds singing (āϤাāϰা āωāĻĒāϰেāϰ āĻĻিāĻ•ে āϤাāĻ•াāϞ āĻāĻŦং āĻĻেāĻ–āϞ āĻĒাāĻ–িāϰা āĻ—াāύ āĻ—াāχāĻ›ে)!

And to this day, the birds sing with Bluster's beautiful voice, and Bluster, and all the other frogs, can only say croak-croak (āĻāĻŦং āφāϜ āĻĒāϰ্āϝāύ্āϤāĻĒাāĻ–িāĻ—ুāϞি āĻŦ্āϞাāϏ্āϟাāϰেāϰ āϏুāύ্āĻĻāϰ āĻ•āĻŖ্āĻ āϏ্āĻŦāϰেāϰ āϏাāĻĨে āĻ—াāύ āĻ—াāϝ়āĻāĻŦং āĻŦ্āϞাāϏ্āϟাāϰāĻāĻŦং āĻ…āύ্āϝাāύ্āϝ āϏāĻŽāϏ্āϤ āĻŦ্āϝাāĻ™āĻ•েāĻŦāϞ āϘ্āϝাāĻ™āϰ āϘ্āϝাāĻ™āϰ  āĻŦāϞāϤে āĻĒাāϰে).
