Adjectives

 


Adjectives are words that describe or modify nouns or pronouns. They provide more information about a person, place, thing, or idea.

Types of Adjectives

1. Descriptive Adjectives – Describe qualities of a noun.

Examples: beautiful, tall, happy, red, cold

Example sentence: She has a beautiful dress.



2. Quantitative Adjectives – Indicate quantity or amount.

Examples: some, few, many, ten, all

Example sentence: I have three apples.



3. Demonstrative Adjectives – Point out specific nouns.

Examples: this, that, these, those

Example sentence: This book is interesting.



4. Possessive Adjectives – Show ownership.

Examples: my, your, his, her, its, our, their

Example sentence: Her dress is red.



5. Interrogative Adjectives – Used in questions.

Examples: which, what, whose

Example sentence: Which color do you like?



6. Distributive Adjectives – Refer to individual items in a group.

Examples: each, every, either, neither

Example sentence: Each student must bring a pen.



7. Proper Adjectives – Derived from proper nouns.

Examples: American, Indian, Shakespearean

Example sentence: She loves Italian food.



8. Compound Adjectives – Made up of two or more words.

Examples: well-known, high-quality, five-year-old

Example sentence: She is a well-known actress.
