What is Gender in Grammar

In English grammar, Gender is a category of nouns or pronouns or none of them or subconscious substances, etc. Ex: Uncle, Son, Aunt, Baby, Teacher, Book, etc.

Gender āĻāĻ° āĻŦাংāĻ˛া āĻ…āĻ°্āĻĨ āĻ˛িāĻ™্āĻ—। āĻ‡ংāĻ°েāĻœি āĻ—্āĻ°াāĻŽাāĻ°ে Gender āĻ•োāĻ¨ Noun āĻŦা Pronoun āĻĒুāĻ°ুāĻˇ, āĻ¸্āĻ¤্āĻ°ী, āĻ•্āĻ˛ীāĻŦ āĻ¨াāĻ•ি āĻ‰āĻ­ā§Ÿ āĻ˛িāĻ™্āĻ— āĻ¤া  āĻŦুāĻাā§Ÿ।


Types of Gender in English Grammar

Generally there are four types of Gender.

  • Masculine Gender
  • Feminine Gender
  • Common Gender
  • Neuter Gender

1. Masculine Gender

Masculine nouns refer to the being which is masculine such as Men, Boys, and Male animals.

āĻ¯ে Noun āĻŦা  Pronoun āĻ¯ে āĻ•োāĻ¨ āĻĒুāĻ°ুāĻˇ āĻĒ্āĻ°াāĻŖী āĻŦা āĻŽাāĻ¨ুāĻˇāĻ•ে āĻŦুāĻাā§Ÿ, āĻ¸েāĻŸি Masculine Gender

Example:


  • Man
  • Boy
  • Father
  • Dog
  • King
  • Author, etc.

A boy is playing in the playground. (Boy is masculine)

The hero is the movie is not a native of this country. (Hero is masculine)

2. Feminine Gender

Feminine nouns refer to women, girls and female animals.

āĻ¯ে Noun āĻŦা  Pronoun āĻ¯ে āĻ•োāĻ¨ āĻ¸্āĻ¤্āĻ°ী āĻĒ্āĻ°াāĻŖী āĻŦা āĻŽাāĻ¨ুāĻˇāĻ•ে āĻŦুāĻাā§Ÿ, āĻ¸েāĻŸি Feminine Gender

Example:

  • Woman
  • Girl
  • Mother
  • Bitch
  • Queen
  • Authoress, etc.

girl is playing in the playground.
The heroine of the movie is not a native of this country.

3. Common Gender

Common Gender includes masculine and feminine categories.

āĻ¯ে Noun āĻŦা Pronoun āĻ•োāĻ¨ āĻĒ্āĻ°াāĻŖীāĻ° āĻĒুāĻ°ুāĻˇ āĻŦা āĻ¸্āĻ¤্āĻ°ী āĻ‰āĻ­ā§Ÿ āĻ…āĻŦāĻ¸্āĻĨাāĻ•েāĻ‡ āĻŦুāĻাāĻ¤ে āĻĒাāĻ°ে, āĻ¸েāĻŸি Common Gender

Example:

  • Parents
  • Baby
  • Driver
  • Singer
  • Child
  • Teacher
  • Enemy, etc.

child is playing in the playground.
parliamentarian should have to commend over his language.

4. Neuter Gender

Neuter gender refers to the lifeless matter.

  • Radio (āĻ°েāĻĄিāĻ“)
  • School (āĻŦিāĻĻ্āĻ¯াāĻ˛ā§Ÿ)
  • Television (āĻŸেāĻ˛িāĻ­িāĻļāĻ¨)
  • College (āĻ•āĻ˛েāĻœ)
  • University (āĻŦিāĻļ্āĻŦāĻŦিāĻĻ্āĻ¯াāĻ˛ā§Ÿ)
  • Book (āĻŦāĻ‡)
  • Pencil (āĻĒেāĻ¨্āĻ¸িāĻ˛) etc.
