Adverb and its kind

Adverb āĻŦা āĻ•্āϰি⧟া-āĻŦিāĻļেāώāĻŖ āĻ•াāĻ•ে āĻŦāϞে? Adverb āĻ•āϤ āĻĒ্āϰāĻ•াāϰ āĻ“ āĻ•ি āĻ•ি?

Adverb āĻāĻ•āϟি part of speech āϝা āĻāĻ•āϟি verb, adjective āĻ…āĻĨāĻŦা āĻ…āύ্āϝ āĻāĻ•āϟি adverb āĻ•ে āĻŦāϰ্āĻŖāύা āĻ•āϰে। āĻāϟি āĻ•āĻ–āύ? /āĻ•োāĻĨা⧟? / āĻ•িāĻ­াāĻŦে? / āĻ•ি āωāĻĒা⧟ে? / āĻāĻŦং āĻ•ি āĻĒāϰিāĻŽাāĻŖে? āĻāχ āĻĒ্āϰāĻļ্āύāĻ—ুāϞোāϰ āωāϤ্āϤāϰ āĻĻে⧟।

An adverb is a word that describes a verb, adjective or another adverb. Adverbs mainly modify manner, place, time, frequency, etc. It answers questions like when?/where?/how?/ in what way?/ and to what extent?


1. She works hard. Here 'hard' modifies verb 'works'. So, 'hard' is an adverb.

How does she work? 

Ans: Hard

2. She is a very good girl. Here 'very' modifies Adjective 'good'. So, 'very' is an adverb. 

How good is she?

Ans: Very

3. She laughs very loudly. Here 'very' modifies another adverb 'loudly'. So, 'very' is an adverb. 



Example:

The girl speaks fluently in English.

āĻāĻ–াāύে “fluently” āĻŦāϰ্āĻŖāύা āĻ•āϰāĻ›ে “the girl” āĻ•িāĻ­াāĻŦে English āĻ āĻ•āĻĨা āĻŦāϞāĻ›ে । āϤাāχ āĻāϟি āĻāĻ•āϟি  adverb.

The coffee is very hot.

āĻāĻ–াāύে “very “ āĻŦāϰ্āĻŖāύা āĻ•āϰāĻ›ে āĻ•āĻĢি āĻ•āϤāϟা āĻ—āϰāĻŽ । āϤাāχ āĻāϟি āĻāĻ•āϟি  adverb.

The boy is running so fast.

āĻāĻ–াāύে “so” āĻŦāϰ্āĻŖāύা āĻ•āϰāĻ›ে āĻ›েāϞেāϟি āĻ•āϤ āĻĻ্āϰুāϤ āĻĻৌ⧜াāϚ্āĻ›ে āĻāĻŦং “fast” āĻŦāϰ্āĻŖāύা āĻ•āϰāĻ›ে āĻ›েāϞেāϟি āĻ•িāĻ­াāĻŦে āĻĻৌ⧜াāϚ্āĻ›ে । āωāϭ⧟েāχ adverb, “so” modify āĻ•āϰāĻ›ে āφāϰেāĻ•āϟি adverb “fast” āĻ•ে āĻāĻŦং “fast” modify āĻ•āϰāĻ›ে āĻāĻ•āϟি verb “run” āĻ•ে ।


Adverbs āĻāϰ āĻĒ্āϰāĻ•াāϰāĻ­েāĻĻ (Classification/ Types)

Adverbs can be classified in different ways. These are discussed below.

Adverb āĻ•ে āĻŦিāĻ­িāύ্āύāĻ­াāĻŦে āĻŦিāĻ­āĻ•্āϤ āĻ•āϰা āϝা⧟ । āĻāĻ—ুāϞো āύিāϚে āĻŦāϰ্āĻŖāύা āĻ•āϰা āĻšāϞো ।

Affirmative or Negative Adverb

Adverb of time:

āϝে adverb āĻ•োāύāĻ•িāĻ›ু āĻ•āĻ–āύ/āĻ•োāύ āϏāĻŽā§Ÿে āϘāϟেāĻ›ে āϤা āĻŦāϰ্āĻŖāύা/āωāϞ্āϞেāĻ– āĻ•āϰে āϤাāĻ•ে Adverb of time āĻŦāϞে । āĻāϟা sentence āĻāϰ āĻļুāϰুāϤে āĻ…āĻĨāĻŦা āĻļেāώে āĻŦ্āϝāĻŦāĻšৃāϤ āĻšā§Ÿ ।

An adverb which tells us when something is done is called Adverb of time. It can be used at the beginning or the end of a sentence.

Adverbs of time: Yesterday, today, afterward, always, immediately, shortly, last month, now, then, soon, etc are common.

Examples:

I will go to the varsity today.

Always speak the truth.

I should go there immediately.


Adverb of place:

āϝে adverb āĻ•োāύāĻ•িāĻ›ু āĻ•োāĻĨা⧟ āϘāϟেāĻ›ে āϤা āωāϞ্āϞেāĻ– āĻ•āϰে āϤাāĻ•ে Adverb of place āĻŦāϞে । āĻāϟা verb āĻāϰ āĻĒāϰে, direct object āĻšিāϏাāĻŦে āĻ…āĻĨāĻŦা sentence āĻāϰ āĻļুāϰুāϤে āĻŦ্āϝāĻŦāĻšৃāϤ āĻšā§Ÿ ।

An adverb which tells us where something is done or happened is called Adverb of place.  It can be used after the verb as a direct object or at the beginning of a sentence.

Adverbs of place: Here, above, below, under, upstairs, there, over there, etc.

Examples:

I will go upstairs to see her.

I like to have my lunch here.

They are sitting under the tree.


Adverb of manner:

āϝে adverb āĻ•োāύোāĻ•িāĻ›ু āĻ•িāĻ­াāĻŦে āĻšā§Ÿ/āĻšāϚ্āĻ›ে/āĻšāĻŦে āϤা āĻŦ্āϝāĻ–্āϝা/āωāϞ্āϞেāĻ– āĻ•āϰে āϤাāĻ•ে Adverb of manner āĻŦāϞে ।

An adverb which tells us how something is done is called the Adverb of manner.


Most of these adverbs have “ly” at its end such as, quickly, slowly, happily, badly, etc. Fast, hard, well, etc. are also adverbs of manner.

Examples:

Inflation badly affected our economy.

The man has to work hard to get a promotion.

I tried to sing well in the program.


Adverb of degree:

āϝে adverb āĻ•োāύোāĻ•িāĻ›ু āĻ•ি āĻĒāϰিāĻŽাāĻŖে/āĻ•āϤāϟুāĻ•ু āϘāϟেāĻ›ে āϤা āĻŦোāĻা⧟ āϤাāĻ•ে Adverb of degree āĻŦāϞে ।

An adverb that tells us the level or the extent that something is done is called the Adverb of degree.

Adverbs of degree: So, very, quite, really, too, almost, much, nearly, etc.

Examples:

The work is almost done.

The book is really interesting.

I am very happy to hear this good news.



Adverb of frequency:

āϝে adverb āĻ•োāύāĻ•িāĻ›ু āĻ•āϤāĻŦাāϰ āĻŦা āĻ•āϤ āϏāĻŽā§Ÿ āĻĒāϰāĻĒāϰ āĻšā§Ÿ āϤা āĻŦোāĻা⧟ āϤাāĻ•ে Adverb of frequency āĻŦāϞে ।

An adverb that tells us how often something is done is called Adverb of frequency.

Adverbs of frequency: Weekly, twice, sometimes, never, always, generally, usually, nearly, again, ever, hardly ever, etc.

Examples:

I have never been to that place.

Always wear a smile on your face.

Sometimes I feel nostalgic while listening to an old song.

I go to my home town once a year. 


Affirmative or Negative Adverb:

 

āĻāϟা āĻ•োāύāĻ•িāĻ›ু āϏāϤ্āϝ āĻ•ি āĻŽিāĻĨ্āϝা  āϤা āĻŦāϞে āĻ…āĻĨāĻŦা āĻ•োāύোāĻ•িāĻ›ুāϰ āωāĻĒāϰ āĻ—ুāϰুāϤ্āĻŦ āφāϰোāĻĒ āĻ•āϰে

It tells whether a thing is true or false or it emphasizes a matter. Truly, Especially, never, etc. are examples of affirmative or negative adverbs.

Examples:

Truly, I want her to be here.

She especially mentioned her name.

Never tell a lie.
