An adverb is a word that describes a verb, adjective or another adverb. Adverbs mainly modify manner, place, time, frequency, etc. It answers questions like when?/where?/how?/ in what way?/ and to what extent?
1. She works hard. Here 'hard' modifies verb 'works'. So, 'hard' is an adverb.
How does she work?
Ans: Hard
2. She is a very good girl. Here 'very' modifies Adjective 'good'. So, 'very' is an adverb.
How good is she?
Ans: Very
3. She laughs very loudly. Here 'very' modifies another adverb 'loudly'. So, 'very' is an adverb.
Example:
The girl speaks fluently in English.
āĻāĻাāĻ¨ে “fluently” āĻŦāĻ°্āĻŖāĻ¨া āĻāĻ°āĻে “the girl” āĻিāĻাāĻŦে English āĻ āĻāĻĨা āĻŦāĻ˛āĻে । āĻ¤াāĻ āĻāĻি āĻāĻāĻি adverb.
The coffee is very hot.
āĻāĻাāĻ¨ে “very “ āĻŦāĻ°্āĻŖāĻ¨া āĻāĻ°āĻে āĻāĻĢি āĻāĻ¤āĻা āĻāĻ°āĻŽ । āĻ¤াāĻ āĻāĻি āĻāĻāĻি adverb.
The boy is running so fast.
āĻāĻাāĻ¨ে “so” āĻŦāĻ°্āĻŖāĻ¨া āĻāĻ°āĻে āĻেāĻ˛েāĻি āĻāĻ¤ āĻĻ্āĻ°ুāĻ¤ āĻĻৌā§াāĻ্āĻে āĻāĻŦং “fast” āĻŦāĻ°্āĻŖāĻ¨া āĻāĻ°āĻে āĻেāĻ˛েāĻি āĻিāĻাāĻŦে āĻĻৌā§াāĻ্āĻে । āĻāĻā§েāĻ adverb, “so” modify āĻāĻ°āĻে āĻāĻ°েāĻāĻি adverb “fast” āĻে āĻāĻŦং “fast” modify āĻāĻ°āĻে āĻāĻāĻি verb “run” āĻে ।

Adverbs can be classified in different ways. These are discussed below.

Affirmative or Negative Adverb
Adverb of time:
āĻ¯ে adverb āĻোāĻ¨āĻিāĻু āĻāĻāĻ¨/āĻোāĻ¨ āĻ¸āĻŽā§ে āĻāĻেāĻে āĻ¤া āĻŦāĻ°্āĻŖāĻ¨া/āĻāĻ˛্āĻ˛েāĻ āĻāĻ°ে āĻ¤াāĻে Adverb of time āĻŦāĻ˛ে । āĻāĻা sentence āĻāĻ° āĻļুāĻ°ুāĻ¤ে āĻ āĻĨāĻŦা āĻļেāĻˇে āĻŦ্āĻ¯āĻŦāĻšৃāĻ¤ āĻšā§ ।
An adverb which tells us when something is done is called Adverb of time. It can be used at the beginning or the end of a sentence.
Adverbs of time: Yesterday, today, afterward, always, immediately, shortly, last month, now, then, soon, etc are common.
Examples:
I will go to the varsity today.
Always speak the truth.
I should go there immediately.
Adverb of place:
āĻ¯ে adverb āĻোāĻ¨āĻিāĻু āĻোāĻĨাā§ āĻāĻেāĻে āĻ¤া āĻāĻ˛্āĻ˛েāĻ āĻāĻ°ে āĻ¤াāĻে Adverb of place āĻŦāĻ˛ে । āĻāĻা verb āĻāĻ° āĻĒāĻ°ে, direct object āĻšিāĻ¸াāĻŦে āĻ āĻĨāĻŦা sentence āĻāĻ° āĻļুāĻ°ুāĻ¤ে āĻŦ্āĻ¯āĻŦāĻšৃāĻ¤ āĻšā§ ।
An adverb which tells us where something is done or happened is called Adverb of place. It can be used after the verb as a direct object or at the beginning of a sentence.
Adverbs of place: Here, above, below, under, upstairs, there, over there, etc.
Examples:
I will go upstairs to see her.
I like to have my lunch here.
They are sitting under the tree.
Adverb of manner:
āĻ¯ে adverb āĻোāĻ¨োāĻিāĻু āĻিāĻাāĻŦে āĻšā§/āĻšāĻ্āĻে/āĻšāĻŦে āĻ¤া āĻŦ্āĻ¯āĻ্āĻ¯া/āĻāĻ˛্āĻ˛েāĻ āĻāĻ°ে āĻ¤াāĻে Adverb of manner āĻŦāĻ˛ে ।
An adverb which tells us how something is done is called the Adverb of manner.
Most of these adverbs have “ly” at its end such as, quickly, slowly, happily, badly, etc. Fast, hard, well, etc. are also adverbs of manner.
Examples:
Inflation badly affected our economy.
The man has to work hard to get a promotion.
I tried to sing well in the program.
Adverb of degree:
āĻ¯ে adverb āĻোāĻ¨োāĻিāĻু āĻি āĻĒāĻ°িāĻŽাāĻŖে/āĻāĻ¤āĻুāĻু āĻāĻেāĻে āĻ¤া āĻŦোāĻাā§ āĻ¤াāĻে Adverb of degree āĻŦāĻ˛ে ।
An adverb that tells us the level or the extent that something is done is called the Adverb of degree.
Adverbs of degree: So, very, quite, really, too, almost, much, nearly, etc.
Examples:
The work is almost done.
The book is really interesting.
I am very happy to hear this good news.
Adverb of frequency:
āĻ¯ে adverb āĻোāĻ¨āĻিāĻু āĻāĻ¤āĻŦাāĻ° āĻŦা āĻāĻ¤ āĻ¸āĻŽā§ āĻĒāĻ°āĻĒāĻ° āĻšā§ āĻ¤া āĻŦোāĻাā§ āĻ¤াāĻে Adverb of frequency āĻŦāĻ˛ে ।
An adverb that tells us how often something is done is called Adverb of frequency.
Adverbs of frequency: Weekly, twice, sometimes, never, always, generally, usually, nearly, again, ever, hardly ever, etc.
Examples:
I have never been to that place.
Always wear a smile on your face.
Sometimes I feel nostalgic while listening to an old song.
I go to my home town once a year.
Affirmative or Negative Adverb:
āĻāĻা āĻোāĻ¨āĻিāĻু āĻ¸āĻ¤্āĻ¯ āĻি āĻŽিāĻĨ্āĻ¯া āĻ¤া āĻŦāĻ˛ে āĻ āĻĨāĻŦা āĻোāĻ¨োāĻিāĻুāĻ° āĻāĻĒāĻ° āĻুāĻ°ুāĻ¤্āĻŦ āĻāĻ°োāĻĒ āĻāĻ°ে।
It tells whether a thing is true or false or it emphasizes a matter. Truly, Especially, never, etc. are examples of affirmative or negative adverbs.
Examples:
Truly, I want her to be here.
She especially mentioned her name.
Never tell a lie.
