 Sentence Connectors বা Linkers কী?

ইংরেজিতে বিভিন্ন sentence

(বাক্য), clause (বাক্যাংশ) বা

phrase (শব্দগুচ্ছ)-এর মধ্যে ছন্দ ও

যৌক্তিক সম্পর্ক বজায় রাখতে যে

সব word বা phrase ব্যবহার করা হয়

তাদেরকে sentence connectors বা

linkers বলে।

বিভিন্ন ধরনের Sentence Connectors

বা Linkers: Simple Connectors: এ

ধরনের sentence connectors বা

linkers সাধারণত একটি শব্দ দিয়ে

গঠিত হয়। যেমনঃ after, afterwards,

also, although, and, as, before,

because, besides, but, consequently,

first, firstly, how, however, instead,

last, lastly, moreover, nevertheless,

next, or, second, secondly, since, so,

therefore, third, thirdly, though, that,

thus, till, unless, until, yet, what,

whatever, when, where, while, who,

whom, whose, why ইত্যাদি।

Phrasal Connectors: দুই বা ততোধিক

শব্দ দিয়ে গঠিত adverbial phrase,

infinitive phrase, prepositional phrase

কিংবা conjunctional phrase

সাধারণত phrasal connectors বা

linkers হিসেবে ব্যবহূত হয়। যেমনঃ

as soon as, as well as, at first, at last,

at the beginning, at the end, even

though, first of all, in addition to, in

between, in brief, instead of, in the

beginning, in the end, in the first

place, in the middle of, in the second

place, in the third place, on the

contrary, on the other hand, on the

whole, so that, to conclude ইত্যাদি।

Co-relative Connectors: দুটি ভিন্ন

স্থানে ব্যবহূত জোড়া জোড়া শব্দ

বা শব্দগুচ্ছ দিয়ে গঠিত adverbial

phrase, prepositional phrase কিংবা

conjunctional phrase সাধারণত co-

relative connectors বা linkers এর

কাজ করে থাকে। এই co-relative

connectors বা linkers এর ক্ষেত্রে

যেহেতু পূর্বের শব্দ বা শব্দগুচ্ছের

সাথে পরের সুনির্দিষ্ট শব্দ বা

শব্দগুচ্ছের অন্তমিল থাকে, সেহেতু

এগুলোর ক্ষেত্রে পূর্বের ও পরের

সুনির্দিষ্ট শব্দ বা শব্দগুচ্ছ ছাড়া

ইচ্ছে মাফিক অন্য কোন connector

বা linker ব্যবহার করা যায় না।

যেমনঃ as——-as, so———as, between

——-and, both——-and, either———or,

hardly——-when/before, neither———

nor, no sooner——-than, not only———

but also, so——-that, scarcely——-

when ইত্যাদি।
